Creating an Impactful Awareness Campaign for VTTD
When VTTD approached me to create a video campaign, I knew this project held a unique opportunity to combine storytelling with meaningful impact. VTTD connects youth with MLB coaches to enhance their skills and understanding of the game. The video campaign aimed to raise awareness about their incredible work.
From concept to delivery, this project required a blend of creativity, technical expertise, and careful planning.

Planning the Campaign: Setting the Foundation
This awareness campaign had a comprehensive scope, requiring deliverables in multiple formats for various social media platforms:
-
Deliverables: The project included a 3.5-minute full cut, a 90-second cut, and a 30-second cut. Each version was formatted in landscape, square, and portrait to ensure optimal performance on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
-
Team Collaboration: I took on multiple roles, including producer, director of photography, editor, sound designer, and colorist, while Levi Ringo directed and Jesse Richards handled grip duties. Our small but capable team allowed for efficient communication and execution.

Pre-Production: Building the Vision
Success starts with solid preparation. Here’s how we got ready:
-
Concept Development: Working closely with VTTD, we outlined a video that would highlight their mission, feature compelling testimonials, and showcase real interactions between youth and MLB coaches.
-
Location Scouting: We selected three key locations that would visually represent the program’s scope and energy.
-
Shot List and Schedule: A detailed shot list and a tightly managed schedule allowed us to maximize our two days of filming.
-
Equipment Setup: We prepared gear tailored to our needs, ensuring we could capture high-quality footage in a variety of settings.

Production: Capturing the Story
With everything planned, it was time to bring the vision to life:
-
Two Days, Three Locations: The shoot spanned two days and covered three unique locations. Each setting added depth to the narrative and helped convey the breadth of VTTD’s work.
-
Cinematography: As the director of photography, I focused on capturing the visuals that showcased the passion and dedication of the actor. Close-ups, wide shots, and slow-motion sequences were used to emphasize key moments.
-
Team Effort: Levi Ringo’s direction ensured the story remained focused and impactful, while Jesse Richards’ grip work provided seamless support for lighting and camera movement.

Post-Production: Crafting the Message
After the footage was captured, the real magic happened in post-production:
-
Editing: As the editor, I crafted three compelling narratives from the footage, ensuring each cut maintained the core message while fitting the desired length and format.
-
Sound Design: I added carefully chosen music and sound effects to evoke emotion and complement the visuals. Clear audio from interviews and voiceovers was prioritized to enhance the storytelling.
-
Color Grading: Using color correction and grading, I gave the video a polished, professional look. Each scene was adjusted for consistency and to highlight the energy of the program.
-
Formatting: Preparing the final cuts in landscape, square, and portrait ensured the videos were optimized for a wide range of platforms.

The Outcome: High Impact and Engagement
The final videos were met with enthusiasm and achieved their goal of raising awareness for VTTD. Each version resonated with its audience, and the multi-format approach allowed the campaign to reach users across various social media platforms effectively.
